K&C expenses saga covered in Private Eye

2.17.00pm GMT Wed 11th Nov 2009

Money going down a drain

The saga of the expenses of Conservative Council leader Merrick Cockell has been covered by Private Eye in their latest issue (13 Nov - 26 Nov). The story features prominently on their Rotten Boroughs page. The article mentions the dossier handed to the District Auditor by Robin Meltzer, the Liberal Democrat parliamentary campaigner for Kensington.

The article draws particular attention to the unauthorised use of the Mayoral Bentley and Councillor Cockell's changing story about its use, and also one of the trips he made to the United States in his role as Chair of London Councils. Private Eye points out this trip was paid for by the Kensington & Chelsea tax payer even though Councillor Cockell wasn't even travelling on Council business.
