Liberal Democrats in the new Constituency of Chelsea and Fulham have chosen green jobs champion Dirk Hazell as Prospective Parliamentary Candidate.

Dirk runs the industry body championing both the UK's 500% increase in recycling over the last decade and also, in wider international discussion, future green economic growth. He joined the Liberal Democrats having chaired London Region Conservatives at the last General Election.

Brian Orrell, Chair of Kensington and Chelsea Liberal Democrats, comments: "Dirk was born locally, his first home was local and he has known Chelsea and Fulham all his life. He is the ideal, strong local voice to speak up for everyone living in the new Constituency of Chelsea and Fulham."

Dirk Hazell comments: "It is a joy to be selected to represent Liberal Democrats in this uniquely special Constituency. Liberal Democrats are determined both to protect all that is best in Chelsea and Fulham and also to extend real opportunity to all who live here.

"I left the Tories because I believe the Liberal Democrats to be more committed to essential environmental policies - like insulating every home within 10 years to cut both global warming and pensioners' fuel bills - and because of the Tories' alliance in the European Parliament with the far right.

"I also passionately believe that those who have most in Chelsea and Fulham also benefit in so many ways if fair life chances, starting with early childhood, are extended to those who have least.

"I hope and believe Liberal Democrats' fair policies for:

  • children, students and pensioners

  • tomorrow's jobs with green and stable economic growth

  • a revitalised NHS, more focused on patients and less on targets

  • freedom of the individual, with less intrusion into the lives of the innocent but with more operational police officers to cut crime and

  • accountable and cleaner politics

will attract support across Chelsea and Fulham as they become better known in coming weeks."
